Spirit of Renewal

The statue, entitled Spirit of Renewal, was commissioned by Restore Arts as part of a visionary development partnership with the Housing Authority of Maricopa County and Gorman & Company. In total, 65 entities collaborated on the extensive renovation of Coffelt-Lamoreaux, repairing and upgrading living facilities and bringing new life to the community, built in 1953 as Arizona’s first affordable housing complex. “Art became part of this project when we started to look at how desolate it was; how it did not have anything that captured your eye,” said Gloria Munoz, executive director of the Housing Authority of Maricopa County. “We started to think, ‘What could we do here to integrate art?’”

It’s time to go back to school, and we need your musical instrument donation for the Great Annual Instrument Swap! All around Phoenix and throughout Arizona, kids are getting ready to go back to school. Some parents are elated. Their kids, perhaps . . . not quite so elated -- especially kids who dream of playing an instrument, but can’t afford one. Wouldn’t it be great to put a smile on the face of a deserving-but-disadvantaged young student today? The Clarinet in the Closet Every year at about this time, some students decide band is not for them. Their instruments will be stored in closets or sold. And every year at about this time, a good number of other students will want to join a school
